Anita Benko
UX Consultant and Interaction Lab Supervisor
“My design interest lies in fostering user agency, helping people become aware of their behaviours, experiences, and habits so they can make intentional choices in how they interact with technology”
Background
I have six years of experience in the industry and completed advanced-level research methods studies during my undergraduate and master’s degrees. I work across a wide range of research and design methods, from interviews and focus groups to concept testing, usability testing, journey mapping, and prototyping among others. I also excel at working with a variety of stakeholders, helping facilitate decisions that balance user needs with product and client priorities, drawing on my experience in an agency environment.
I focus on storytelling when presenting insights and aim to communicate complex ideas and processes in a simple, clear way that motives action. I also have a particular interest in workshop facilitation, using creative methods to bring ideas together, explore them in unusual ways, and support teams in prioritising and agreeing on next steps.
Interests
I’m interested in exploring the degree of awareness and control we have over how technology fits into our lives, and how design can help us navigate it more intentionally. I’m also curious about the long-term impact of technology on individuals and society, questioning whether the “needs” we address are real and whether the “problems” we solve genuinely benefit us, both individually and as a collective.
In my free time, I enjoy all things arty and crafty, from digital illustration and acting classes to going to the theatre.
UX work experience
- Alongside my role at The Interaction Lab I work part-time at Ebrik, a startup that operates a digital platform connecting social housing residents with their housing associations and councils.
- Previously, I led the strategy and UX team at Holition, a digital innovation agency, where I defined and promoted our research and design methodologies and acted as the main liaison with other teams, product, development, creative, and our clients.
Future aspirations
I enjoy combining disciplines in design, and one of my aspirations for our work in the lab is to integrate research, design, facilitation, visual storytelling, and even elements of drama and play in unexpected ways to produce design processes and outcomes that are both insightful and creative.
